Planning our passage across the awesome tides of the Pentland Firth, the scale of the Orkney Isles became apparent. Then we arrived in Scapa Flow and found the sheltered location of Stromness. We enjoyed its quaint streets and were impressed by its friendly, enterprising and self-sufficient people. Remote? When viewed from further south perhaps. But Orkney doesn’t feel the least bit remote when you’re there.
